Engagements | Rachel & Aaron continued...

Remember these two? Here are their snow photos, as promised! We came back to school from Christmas break to find the town covered in snow, and got to the orchard as quickly as possible. And just as I thought, these photos turned out so well!

This couple just make my day every time I get to see them. They are always so happy and fun, and the love and friendship between them radiates. Any man who can make his woman laugh like nothing else is funnier is deserving of her love.

Riddle for you: What do you get when you put two nerdy best friends together to take photos?

Engagements | Rachel & Aaron

I've known Rachel for just over a year now. We went to see my husband (then boyfriend) perform in White Christmas in Idaho Falls, and we discovered that we were soul mates, mainly because we both love nerdy things. Since then we've both been so busy with school and finding wonderful men that we haven't really spend time with each other, so it was so exciting to get the text from Rachel asking me to take her engagement photos. We were hoping to take snow photos before the Christmas break, but there wasn't more than a few hours of snow during the whole month before the end of the semester, which is a pity because engagements in the snow would look incredible. I promised that we could do snow photos after the break when ever we get snow again, and so they were willing to do a shoot so that they could have photos to use with their announcements. Needless to say, we got some great photos that day.

Art | Ceramics and Drawings

So my talented sister has all this great art, and she wanted me to take pictures of it all before we left home for college. A few weeks later I finally got to edit them, and they look great!

Personal | Macro Monday, updates, and apologies.

Well hello again! It's been a busy few weeks...

Because there's so much that gets done in the Darkroom, it doesn't make sense that the Darkroom is "dark", or pitch black like everyone thinks. This certain amber coloured light - a safe light - is great because the photo paper we photographers print with isn't sensitive to it! That means the photos won't turn out black, but that also means that I can never see anything outside after I've spent 3, or 4, or 8 hours in there.

So because I've had to spend hours and hours in the darkroom doing homework, along with other various activities of importance I haven't been able to post any photos or even make any quick blog notes. My apologies for those who have been waiting almost a month to see my new photos. But I have been hard at work editing those photos, as well as registering for fall university classes and housing, which I'm very excited for!

So thanks to everyone who's been so patient with me. Once I get sorted out again I'll be back on track! Keep an eye out for those photos!

Enjoy life, don't just endure it.

Personal | Macro Monday

I can't believe I can't get these up on time, but then yesterday was full of stuff to get done, including developing a roll of film for the first time ever.

These are the results of my first Film Photography assignment. They look pretty dark here, but if held up to the light you can faintly make out the detail in some of the photos. And they're dark because these are the negatives. When developed, they will be very white, due to my lack of experience with correct exposure settings. I hope the next assignment turns out much better.

Personal | Macro Monday + SLRs

Today's macro photo is brought to you by Long and Mcquade, the number 9, and the letter G.

I finally have a capo! Not a great big fancy one - I'm not that rich. Just a small capo that does the same job. Plus it's cute.

And on the note of new things, I have a couple new toys to spend my time getting to know. The first one is a film SLR, all my own! Automatic and manual functions, film, 55mm lens.

And the second is an SLR, completely manual, borrowed from my Photography class to use for the assignments. Manual only, film, 50mm lens.
Today's class was a lesson on shutter speeds, apertures, light testing, loading film, and winding the film when it's all used.

I love the sound of the shutter opening on the manual SLR!

Personal | New Camera + Macro Monday

Isn't she beautiful? This is just an online photo as I don't personally have the camera yet. But I am getting it! Manually functional film SLR, 35mm lens. It's going to be great. And, given I can find a 50mm lens for it, I can use it for my film photography class this Summer.

Annnnnnd because I've been awful getting the Monday Macros up, I'll do one today. Yesterday was pretty busy anyway.

On a clear day, dew still lingers.

Personal | Macro Monday + Free Photos

I was going to introduce this concept last week but there was work to go to, and photo shoots to follow up on and schedule, and I was out of the country for a few days so I didn't get any blogging done. But it's a new week and time to get stuff done!

So Macro Monday is just what it sounds like. I'm going to be taking photos all week and from the macro shots I get I'm going to choose one to post and write about on the following Monday. This will keep me busy.

Because of my limited photography knowledge I'm not trained in the art of macro photography and I may have a completely different perspective of what it is. But this furniture element caught my eye while visiting an aunt and uncle in their beautiful new house and I just had to take a close-up photo of it.

I'm still offering free photo shoots: portraits, weddings, engagements, events and such. I will edit all of your requested photos, and I'll print them in the sizes you choose if you want me to. I will also be featuring my choice of photos on my blog. Talk to me at fmphotography.mitchell@gmail.com or send me a message on facebook: Forever Moments Photography. I'm always happy to hear from you!

TRAVEL UPDATE: I will not be scheduling anything from now until April due to the awesome vacation to Ontario/Quebec/New York I will be on. I'll hear from you all then!

Personal | Macro Collection

I was suddenly in a mood for admiring macro photos, including my own. There's nothing quite like the detail found in a macro picture. In honor of this reminiscing I've put together a collage of my favorite macro photos that I have taken since starting photography.
