Graduation | Gleneagle Secondary Friends

Eating a grilled cheese sandwich while blogging is very difficult... but oh so delicious. It's taken me quite a while, as you can tell, to finally get these photos edited and blogged, but I'm finally checking this one off my list!

These stunning students actually graduated 4 weeks ago. My friend Tina, who I photographed this year, told all her friends about my work and they agreed to give me the honor of being their photographer for their high school graduation prom. So we all planned to meet up at the location, and I didn't even think about what the Canucks game traffic would be like that evening... so the shoot was a lot shorter than I would've liked, but I'm glad we got some great photos out of it.

And if you happen to be very observant, you'll notice my new logo. It was brilliantly designed by my good friend Cory, an aspiring graphic artist.

Praying for sun!

Personal | Macro Monday, updates, and apologies.

Well hello again! It's been a busy few weeks...

Because there's so much that gets done in the Darkroom, it doesn't make sense that the Darkroom is "dark", or pitch black like everyone thinks. This certain amber coloured light - a safe light - is great because the photo paper we photographers print with isn't sensitive to it! That means the photos won't turn out black, but that also means that I can never see anything outside after I've spent 3, or 4, or 8 hours in there.

So because I've had to spend hours and hours in the darkroom doing homework, along with other various activities of importance I haven't been able to post any photos or even make any quick blog notes. My apologies for those who have been waiting almost a month to see my new photos. But I have been hard at work editing those photos, as well as registering for fall university classes and housing, which I'm very excited for!

So thanks to everyone who's been so patient with me. Once I get sorted out again I'll be back on track! Keep an eye out for those photos!

Enjoy life, don't just endure it.

Portraits | Naomi

The first of several very late posts.

Naomi and I are good friends and have similar interests - one of them being photography. Only she kept saying that she doesn't really know how to model, and I, being a positive thinker, say that everyone can model if they have practice. We talked and talked about getting together and taking photos but of course schedules rarely work well together and we never got around to doing it.

While waiting for the birthday girl to arrive to a party we helped plan and decorate for, we realized we had the perfect opportunity to do an impromptu photo shoot. And what a good idea it was!

Personal | busy, busy Macro Monday

"I never said it would be easy, I only said it would be worth it."

I don't remember where I first heard that phrase quoted, but I'm starting to feel the effects of it in my life.

When developing film there are several, sometimes complicated, steps to go through in order to properly develop the photos you've spent so much time composing and taking. And then there's the printing and developing of the photo paper. These things, coupled with a list of other equally important things, make me feel very busy at times. It's not easy to keep track of it all or accomplish, but that's the reason why I can tell it will be worth it.

Personal | Macro Monday

I can't believe I can't get these up on time, but then yesterday was full of stuff to get done, including developing a roll of film for the first time ever.

These are the results of my first Film Photography assignment. They look pretty dark here, but if held up to the light you can faintly make out the detail in some of the photos. And they're dark because these are the negatives. When developed, they will be very white, due to my lack of experience with correct exposure settings. I hope the next assignment turns out much better.

Personal | Macro Monday + SLRs

Today's macro photo is brought to you by Long and Mcquade, the number 9, and the letter G.

I finally have a capo! Not a great big fancy one - I'm not that rich. Just a small capo that does the same job. Plus it's cute.

And on the note of new things, I have a couple new toys to spend my time getting to know. The first one is a film SLR, all my own! Automatic and manual functions, film, 55mm lens.

And the second is an SLR, completely manual, borrowed from my Photography class to use for the assignments. Manual only, film, 50mm lens.
Today's class was a lesson on shutter speeds, apertures, light testing, loading film, and winding the film when it's all used.

I love the sound of the shutter opening on the manual SLR!

Personal | New Camera + Macro Monday

Isn't she beautiful? This is just an online photo as I don't personally have the camera yet. But I am getting it! Manually functional film SLR, 35mm lens. It's going to be great. And, given I can find a 50mm lens for it, I can use it for my film photography class this Summer.

Annnnnnd because I've been awful getting the Monday Macros up, I'll do one today. Yesterday was pretty busy anyway.

On a clear day, dew still lingers.
Taken on the Vancouver LDS temple grounds.
